Red Island Beach in Banyuwangi (Pantai Pulau Merah)

Pulau Merah or Pulo Merah is a beach tourist attraction in Pesanggaran subdistrict, Banyuwangi. This beach is known for a small green hill with a red ground located near the shoreline. This hill can be visited on foot during low tide. There is also a temple where Hindu residents perform the Mekiyis ceremony. This tourism area is managed by Perum Perhutani Unit II East Java, KPH South Banyuwangi. The name Pulau Merah refers to a small hill on the beach which has a height of about 200 meters. The hill has red soil and is covered by green vegetation so the original color is not too visible. It can be accessed when the water is receding. The waves in the Pulo Merah area are also quite challenging and become one of the ideal places for surfing fans.

Ticket prices for Pulau Merah Beach

To enter Pulau Merah Beach you don't need to spend big pockets. The ticket price is IDR 8,000 per person (not including parking). To park a car you are required to pay Rp 5,000 while for motorcycle parking valued at Rp 2,000. Parking fees are also relatively cheap for the size of tourist attractions. For those of you who are far from the beach you can use the homestay facilities to rest at night. The average homestay on this beach has a tariff of around Rp 100,000 per night.

Route to Pulau Merah Beach

To reach Pulau Merah Beach you have to travel about 60 kilometers from the center of Banyuwangi district. From the city center you have to drive towards Srono then head to Kesilir and continue all the way to Pulau Merah. If you cannot use private vehicles, you can also use public transportation from Banyuwangi Terminal. From the station you can take a bus heading to Pesanggaran. If you have arrived at Pesanggaran you can use a motorcycle or taxi service because it is not too far away. If you use public transportation from Jember direction, get off at Jajag Terminal to change buses to Pesanggaran.
